Your dryer vent exhaust system begins with the transition hose that runs from your dryer to the wall. From there,  the system continues through the walls, crawlspace, or attic where it exits to the exterior of the building. In the old days, most dryers were located off the garage or kitchen, where it easily vented out an exterior wall. Many of today's homes have the dryer located on the interior spaces of the home, making it more difficult to and challenging to vent the system properly. Some vents travel great distances and/or travel vertically, or even run through concealed floor or ceiling joists, making it more difficult to keep the system clean and efficient. Once the vent exits the home, the system should have an outside hood to keep animals out and be equipped with a functioning back draft damper.
